Having landed the curtain raiser on the card, trainer Gordon Elliott completed an opening race double as Chanceawetmorning ran out a facile winner of the McNulty Furniture Rated Novice Hurdle at Roscommon.

Tracking leader Polepatrick for much of the contest, James Smith went on aboard the 13/8 chance entering the home straight.

Asserting from three out, the Conor McGlone owned gelding soon went clear before being allowed coast home from the back of the last to score by 23 lengths.

James Smith reported: “It was very easy, it was like a bit of work for him and he did everything very easily.

“His past two wins were over two miles but he was just staying on the whole time. I wasn’t really afraid of him getting two-and-a-half and he just did everything on the bridle.

“Coming out of the back I gave him a kick in the belly and he just locked on. I didn’t want to go upsetting him so I just let him stride on and he winged the last three.

“Going that stride quicker he absolutely winged them.”
