Runaway Breeders' Cup Turf winner English Channel has been retired following his seven-length success at Monmouth Park.

Owner James T Scatuorchio said: 'I made a deal with this horse that this would be his last race.

'He is a very popular horse around here.

'He's been very special to us. He was our socialiser ? he took us all over the world and all over this country.'

The six-time Group One winner, who accrued over #2.8million in prize-money, was a popular scorer at the New Jersey track ? despite overcoming Arc winner and hot favourite Dylan Thomas.
