Chases Return at Wexford

Racegoers at Wexford, starved of action over the larger obstacles since April 2006, will be delighted to see a resumption of chases at Bettyville tomorrow, with the Michael O'Murchadha Memorial and the Pinnacle Novice Handicap, down for decision on the seven race programme.

Manager at the venue, Michael Murphy explained: "I'm delighted to see the chases return and I actually sponsor one of them myself, it is in my father's name, the Michael O'Murchadha. We have all new fences, made by Jimmy Murphy, up to the highest standard, so we're looking forward to it.

"Due to the fact that we were extending the track we had very little ground available. We couldn't run hurdles and chases at the one time, because of the extension, there were a lot of very tight patches on the track.

"It is big National Hunt country down this way so people will be happy to have them back.

"We hope to bring the extension in to use in May and it will give us huge options. Anybody that has walked it, since the finished product was there, have been very pleased with it. We will still maintain all the old track too which we can use as chutes and various starting points. It is ten acres of new track and we hold on to all the old track too.

"We're absolutely delighted to see a horse like Fiveforthree engaged to run tomorrow. He should bring some extra people through the gates." (EM)
