The Chester Cup is the big betting race on the final day of the May Festival at 3.05pm and the Irish contingent is strong with Joseph O’Brien’s, Puturhandstogether, heading the market under 2000 Guineas-winning jockey Billy Loughnane.

On the latest episode of the Irish Edge, Johnny Ward is joined by Stephen Harris to unearth the value and Stephen gives his advice on how to approach the race from a punter's perspective.

I did like A Piece of Heaven. I thought that run last time out in Ireland was a really good. The horse that finished third, Dallas Star, was the stable nap that day, and I think A Piece of Heaven paid the price for getting in a bit of a row with that and the winner, Lafayette, came from miles off the pace, so it was no advantage to be handy.

If I was a punter on the day, I’d be looking at those that are drawn six and lower, which sounds daft over a staying trip, but I think initially you'll be on much better terms with yourself than you will be if you're taking a chance and praying.

I think in these big-field races it's more about the field size a lot of the time than anything else.

Mark Prescott's got a horse, Blindedbythelights. He ran really well at Kempton the other day. But the only thing about Sir Mark is, he's had one winner from nine in the last fortnight.

I'd much prefer him when they get going - when he's having four or five winners a week.

I think they're a tricky yard to bet cold until they get into their flow, and it usually comes another month or so later. June, July, midsummer, when he's got five plots at Yarmouth on a Monday.

He's an interesting runner. He ran perfectly well the other day. Berkshire Sundance I don't really fancy that. I think that's handicapped to the hilt now, of Andrew Balding’s. That's the one Oisin Murphy's been booked to ride. Moon Over Miami is an interesting one. Ralph Beckett has had four winners in the last fortnight. Some of them have been needing a run, but he's had a run. He finished fifth 34 days ago, and they've laid him out for the race since. He wasn't disgraced in that race. Team Player won up at Musselburgh. He went off hard from the front, so if he got a good draw, he could take a bit of pegging back.
