Aranhill Chief was one of the stars of Galway and is not resting on his laurels.

The seven-year-old achieved a rare feat in winning over fences two days running, striking in a two-miles-six beginners' chase on the Thursday of the showpiece fixture and returning 24 hours later to edge out Usuel Smurfer in a thrilling renewal of the Guinness Galway Blazers over course and distance.

Proud trainer Stephen Mahon has his eyes on a number of possibilities, including the Kerry National.

Mahon said: "He has come out of Galway great and he's ready for a run. I'm not going to put him away.

"He might run in a hurdle race in Bellewstown - he won his bumper and two hurdles there.

"He will have no problem switching from fences to hurdles. I'll be aiming him for the Kerry National and races like that.

"He is still well handicapped. I was told he was the first horse at Galway to win back-to-back chases since 1949. And he fell at the first fence in his very first point-to-point!"
