Chinese White impresses at Gowran

The Dermot Weld trained Chinese White made it a winning season debut after she landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes Listed Race in good style.

Pat Smullen who was doing the steering produced the Lady O'Reilly owned filly to challenge from over two furlongs out.

The pair were soon in front and forged clear close home to win by a convincing three and half lengths.

A delighted Weld said afterwards: "She did that impressively. We'll discuss with the owners as to where to go next."

"She is in foal to Cape Cross, that was just confirmed on Friday so we have a nice bit of time. There are a number of possibilities."

"The Pretty Polly being the most obvious, that's the main reason we've kept her in training. "

"She has put in some excellent performances so we'll see can we win a Group 1 with her."
