Chronicle trial new HD betting board The next generation of betting ring display boards was on trial for the first time at the Chronicle Bookmakers pitch at Punchestown this afternoon. The multi-functional high definition screen provides much clearer pricing, and can show up to 40 runners at one time with varying ways of displaying the horses names by size and highlighting. Live racing can also be shown, with bookmakers able to display prices in running on the same screen. The technology has been created by Global Betting Exchange, the parent company of Betdaq, and the prototype in action today is viewed as an example of what can be done. Spokesman for the company Paul Brain said: “It will give a modern look and feel to the betting ring, and shows just what is possible. The response from other bookmakers here today has been very positive.” He added: “Bookmakers logos can also be displayed, while a 30 second advert can also be shown which should be of great interest to sponsors on big racing days.” Chronicle's Justin Carthy stated: “We sourced this new technology in Hong Kong and built it to our requirements. We’ll be able to show races and display prices at the same time.” Electronic boards first came onto Irish racecourses under ten years ago, and are now used by all bookmakers on track.
