City's Cheltenham Date

Owner Terry Warner is looking forward to seeing Cesarewitch winner Detroit City back over hurdles at Cheltenham next month.

The four-year-old was a length winner over Inchnadamph in the two-mile-two-furlong event at Newmarket on his first Flat start since July 2005.

Warner and trainer Philip Hobbs only ran their Triumph Hurdle winner in the handicap feature as a warm-up for the coming jumps campaign and the owner is hoping they have a Champion Hurdle contender on their hands.

'I spoke to Philip this morning and he is fine, he has come through the race well. We will now to to the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham next month,' said Warner.

'My thoughts are still with the Champion Hurdle but I think Philip is more open-minded.

'The Greatwood is a handicap which he will get in and being a four year old he won't get top weight. He will be 4lb or 5lb down.

'We will get an idea after he has run in the Greatwood and then if he ran well in that, he would go for the Bula. Then we will know whether to go for the Champion Hurdle or go for a longer distance race.'

Warner also owned 2003 Champion Hurdler winner Rooster Booster who took both races on the way to Festival glory.

'It's exactly the same plan we had with Rooster Booster,' Warner told At The Races.

'Detroit is a much bigger horse (than Rooster Booster), he's 17 hands and only just goes in the stalls as we found.

'He's got a very long stride and I think possibly this horse is better ridden a the front.

'If we had the race again I think we would probably go out and lead and not drop him in.'
