Classic Hopes For Beatrix

Top Irish filly Miss Beatrix could bid for Classic glory in the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Trainer Kevin Prendergast believes the ground at Headquarters might be more suitable than at the Curragh which stages the Irish equivalent.

'We'll probably head for the English 1000 or the Irish whichever is the better ground,' the Kildare-based handler told At The Races.

'Probably the better ground might be at Newmarket, it usually is at that time of year in May.'

Miss Beatrix has proved to be a major player this autumn winning the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes and the Goffs Million as well as finishing third to Holy Roman Emperor in the Phoenix Stakes.

Prendergast said the daughter of Danehill Dancer had always shown ability at home.

'We thought a lot of her in the spring but she just didn't seem to do on the track what she did at home but she got it together at the end of the season,' he added.

Miss Beatrix is 16-1 for the Stan James 1000 Guineas with the sponsors.
