Robbie Colgan brought up a double at Downpatrick as The Finger Post decisively won the Furlong Fun Maiden Hurdle.

Trainer Tony Martin evidently thinks the six-year-old son of Zagreb has a bright future as he said: “He’ll have a couple of weeks off now and then go for a good novices hurdle.

He’s a nice horse and that’s only his third run over jumps. I got him after his point-to-points where he was unlucky.

“He works like a good one and I’d say he’s a good one. He jumps great and will make a nice staying chaser. He’s weak and backward at the minute.”

Colgan made headway into the race three out on The Finger Post and the pair stayed on well and for a six and a half length success at 5/1. Market confidence had been weak as he had been 11/4 this morning.

Once 4/5 favourite Over Church Road was headed on the run-in he could only keep on at one pace. Kylecrue got the third-placed money at 11/2.
