Columbine Pleases In Home Workout

Cape Columbine continued her preparation for the UltimatePoker.com 1000 Guineas with a spin on the gallops today.

The daughter of Diktat staked a major claim for the fillies´ Classic at Newmarket on May 1 when runner-up in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Headquarters last week.

'She´s fine and worked well this morning,' said trainer David Elsworth.

The filly lost her maiden tag at the same track last October when taking a valuable sales race and is generally available at around 8-1 for the Guineas with the leading bookmakers.

Reflecting on her three-quarter length defeat to Karen´s Caper in the Nell Gwyn, jockey Richard Quinn told At The Races: 'It´s always disappointing when you get beat, but it was a trial and not the main event.

'She was a bit fresh, a bit well and they did not go very quick the first quarter of a mile. The Guineas will be run at a proper gallop and she´ll be there.'

Whitsbury-based Elsworth also revealed that Norse Dancer will bid to follow up his victory at Newmarket last week in the Group Two betfred.com Mile at Sandown Park on Saturday.

'He worked well today and runs on Saturday,' he added.

Norse Dancer made a successful seasonal debut in the Earl of Sefton Stakes over nine furlongs.
