Commander fine after Bowl disappointment

Nigel Twiston-Davies reports Imperial Commander to be none the worse following his disappointing effort in the totesport Bowl at Aintree on Thursday.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup hero looked in trouble from an early stage and finally parted company with Paddy Brennan at the 14th fence following a number of errors.

"He's 100% fine this morning and that will be it for the season now," said Twiston-Davies on Friday.

"The plan would be for him to come back in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November and we'll take it from there.

"He just didn't jump properly on the day and if you don't jump you don't win.

"He was in trouble too early to say it was one run too many as he looked beaten after a mile and wasn't travelling like his normal self.

"The main thing is he seems OK and we live to fight another day."
