Conditions To Suit Moonlight In Champion Trainer Jim Bolger is optimistic of a good performance from Moonlight Magic in next week's QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. Bolger speaking at a Press open day at his Coolcullen Stables in advance of Longines Irish Champions Weekend said: "I think Moonlight Magic is in with a chance. He hasn't lived up to his early promise so far but conditions will suit him really well in Leopardstown." "It is quite possible he didn't see out the 1m4f trip in the Irish Derby and that being the case I'm hopeful the 1m2f distance in the Champion Stakes will suit him and he is at the top of his game at the present time." "Moonlight Magic has a nice bit of ability, is entitled to be in the race and I am very optimistic he will run very well." Bolger who is in his 40th year training race horses has previously won the Irish Champion Stakes twice with Park Express (1986) and New Approach (2008). Moonlight Magic has won twice at Leopardstown but has not tasted success since landing the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at the venue in May.
