Condon has Ascot in mind for Bold Thady Ken Condon has a trip to Ascot in his mind for his stable stalwart Bold Thady Quill. The seven-year-old has performed with great credit all season, having started at the Curragh in March on the first day of the campaign. Although without win so far this term, he has finished second three times and was beaten just a length when third to Baraweez on Irish Champion Stakes day at Leopardstown. He ran again a few days later, making the journey to Sandown for the Fortune Stakes, where he was sixth. Condon feels the newly-staged £250,000 Balmoral Handicap on October 18 might be an inviting target for his gelding. The trainer said: "Bold Thady Quill might go for the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day at Ascot. He might be better suited to that type of race as he isn't a bona fide stakes horse and those races don't play to his strengths. "He ran in the Concorde Stakes at Tipperary last year but the configuration of the course, combined with tactically getting found out in those type of races, means he is better off in a big handicap with a stronger pace. "He is ground versatile, but we wouldn't mind if it got wet for him."
