Confidence behind Eminent

Martyn Meade believes Eminent can reach the top in 2018 after just falling below the very best in his three-year-old campaign.

The Newmarket trainer is targeting the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot as the first major objective for the son of Frankel.

Eminent won Group Three and Group Two races this season, but the best he could achieve in four Group Ones was third to Decorated Knight in the Irish Champion Stakes on what was his final start of the season.

"He has been turned out for six weeks or so since his run in the Irish Champion. He has matured," said Meade.

"I will bring him back early next year and maybe just give him one run before the Prince of Wales's at Ascot. Hopefully he will really fulfil all his potential there.

"There is no point putting him over a mile and a half as I think a mile and a quarter is his distance.

"It is a great thing to have him next year. He didn't quite get there at the top level this year, but I am sure he will next year."
