After narrowly missing out on Epsom Derby honours yesterday, the connections of Madhmoon struck with Risaalaat in the Croom House Stud Irish EBF Fillies Maiden.

Having disappointed on debut at Limerick last month, the Kevin Prendergast trained bay since finished fifth to Lumsden at Sligo.

Sent off at 14/1 this afternoon, the daughter of Mukhadram raced in second under Chris Hayes and picked off the front running Mairead Kate with a furlong and a half left to race.

She was ridden clear inside the final furlong and went on to score convincingly by four lengths. Bellakris (4/1) came through to take second under Shane Foley for Jessica Harrington, while Azwah was another length and a half back in third.

The aforementioned Mairead Kate was returned the 9/10 favourite, but she faded tamely once headed and finished a disappointing fifth.

Hayes said of the Hamdan Al Maktoum owner winner: "We always liked her but thought she'd have won before now.

"She was green the first day and learned plenty at Sligo and ground it out well today although the head-wind may have exaggerated the result.

"She is in at the Sales and hopefully can win another one before she goes."
