Conquest continues comeback bid

Followers of Casual Conquest might have to wait a few weeks longer to see the long-absent performer return to the track.

Casual Conquest, who was second in an Irish Derby and won the 2009 Tattersalls Gold Cup has been gelded since his most recent start, when well-beaten by Sea The Stars in that year's Irish Champion Stakes, and has been plagued by injury.

Trainer Dermot Weld had entered him for a race earlier this month and he holds engagements in September for the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes again as well as for the Irish Field St. Leger.

"I'd say he won't be out for another month," warned Stan Cosgrove, manager of Casual Conquest's owner and breeder, Moyglare Stud Farm.

"He has been off for ages and we are going to take our time with him, but he has been back in for a long time and been doing a bit of work."

Another smart stayer from the Moyglare production line has been Sense Of Purpose, who made it three wins from her last four starts in this month's Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown.

"She's a very genuine, consistent filly," Cosgrove added.

"She is in the Irish Leger and also has the option of the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster."
