Conquest set for autumn campaign

Casual Conquest could return to action in either the Arc or the Champion Stakes.

Dermot Weld's highly-rated colt went off favourite for the Epsom Derby before finishing a creditable third behind New Approach.

And the son of Hernando went one better in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh, looking the likely winner before being collared by the late surge of Frozen Fire close home.

Weld is now looking at autumn targets for his colt after ruling out the Irish Champion Stakes, and told The Racing Post: "We worked Casual Conquest on very soft ground on Monday and he didn't handle it very well.

"He's much more effective on fast ground and, with a very mixed forecast for the weekend, we decided to give Leopardstown a miss.

"We will review the situation next week, but the Champion Stakes and the Arc are two options we will consider."

Meanwhile Weld confirmed that his French Derby runner-up Famous Name will return in Saturday's Kilternan Stakes at Leopardstown.
