Conright Boy runner-up on his last four completed starts, gained a deserved win when making all in the Navan Members Handicap Chase.

Cathy O’Leary elected to fit cheek pieces on the veteran for the first time and it enabled him to turn around recent course and distance form with Spare Brakes on 6lb better terms.

The 11-year-old jumped well apart from one very slow leap down the back straight and he found plenty when asked by Donagh Meyler at the business end.

He was driven out on the run-in to beat Spare Brakes by two and a quarter lengths, with My Manekineko keeping on to finish just a half length further back in third.

O'Leary said, “He deserved that big time as he's always knocking on the door.

“He gave me a scare at that fence down the back but thank God he got out of it. He ran on well and I think the cheek-pieces helped him down the straight.”
