Consular Fine For Ebor Bid

Consular is reported to be in top shape ahead of his bid for Wednesday's £200,000 totesport Ebor at York.

The Michael Jarvis-trained four-year-old enjoyed a big pay-day when galloping to glory in last month's Old Newton Cup at Haydock before finishing a close fourth to Young Mick in another valuable handicap at Ascot.

His Haydock victory was his second over a mile and a half and he will be stepping into unknown territory in the upcoming showpiece on the Knavesmire ? having never before tackled the mile-and-six-furlong trip.

Jarvis admits connections are in the dark as to whether or not the extra two furlongs will suit and he has his fingers crossed that no further rain arrives at the Yorkshire track.

'He's absolutely fine and he runs in the Ebor on Wednesday,' Jarvis confirmed.

'He is obviously taking a step up in trip and his pedigree doesn't really suggest he will stay but his jockey seems to think he is sure to, so we'll just have to wait and see.

'He does like good ground though so we wouldn't want it to get too soft for him.'
