Cork Manager Michael O’Neill is confident of racing going ahead on Sunday, with the Mallow venue hosting one of its principal race-days featuring the Grade 2 Kerry Group Hilly Way Chase.

Concerns have been raised with the cancellation of today’s meeting at Clonmel, and the prospect of further unsettled weather.

O’Neill said, “We are going through a wet spell and have had 10mm of rain already this morning and will probably get another 10 or 15mm today. There is further rain forecast on Saturday.

“The track is taking it well but we will have to watch it closely over the next few days. Its real winter ground but we have two fresh tracks.

“We’ll be keeping an eye on the river, and that’s our main concern. We are expecting a good dry day tomorrow, and that will help a lot.”

The seven-race Kerry Group-sponsored card is further enhanced by two Grade 3 events, and the going is currently heavy on both the hurdle and chase tracks.
