First Cornerstone is to join Rick Mettee's stables in the United States following his run in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington on Saturday.

American-based owners Team Valor International have decided to keep the three-year-old colt on that side of the Atlantic in the hope of better luck with the son of Hurricane Run.

First Cornerstone won the Group Two Futurity Stakes at the Curragh for Co Tyrone trainer Andy Oliver and was fourth in Doncaster's Racing Post Trophy as a two-year-old but things have just not turned out right this campaign.

He was highly-tried in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the French Derby before finishing eighth on his latest start after which he was found to have scoped dirty for a second time this season.

Team Valor tweeted: "First Cornerstone scoped dirty again, will join Rick Mettee at Fair Hill."
