Fifth on his debut at Kilbeggan late last month, the Eoin Doyle-trained Corway improved to win the concluding Tote Guarantee (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race at Downpatrick this afternoon.

Riding his second winner in the professional ranks to add to three wins as an amateur, Paddy Cody brought the 14/1 shot from a little off the pace to head the Conor Houlihan-trained 11/4 chance Flashy Red inside the final 100 yards and score by three-parts of a length.

Cody said: “He was very green first time up, but one thing he did was gallop the whole way to the line.

“I knew today, if he was running on coming up the hill, that he would finish out very strong which he did. No (not worried about the step up in trip), the way he stayed on the last day when he was just very green, I had no issues about the trip today.

“He has a great attitude, tries very hard, and hopefully he is a nice horse going forward.

“He's still quite a green horse and, even throughout today, he was changing legs, He probably didn't handle the track fully. When he met the rising ground, he didn't half pick up.

“He's a big baby and you probably won't see the best of him until next year.

“That's my fifth winner on the track.”
