Cougar aiming for Newmarket repeat Cougar Mountain returns to Newmarket bidding for another Group 2 success on Friday. Aidan O'Brien's charge was a hugely impressive winner of the Joel Stakes at the track a fortnight ago. He faces a furlong less and must carry a penalty now for the seven-furlong Dubai 100 Challenge Stakes. "He's in good form since the last day," said O'Brien. "It's a furlong shorter but he's a horse we've always thought had plenty of speed. "He has to carry a penalty as well but he's in good form." Another horse burdened with a penalty is John Gosden's Richard Pankhurst, who failed to follow up his win in the Hungerford Stakes when beaten favourite in the Park Stakes at Doncaster. "Richard Pankhurst did not act on the loose ground at Doncaster last time and will be suited by the faster going at Newmarket," Gosden told www.godolphin.com. Roger Varian sends Certificate out again after he went close at Redcar on Saturday. "We are backing Certificate up quickly, but he ran a tremendous race in the Guisborough Stakes and that looked an above-average renewal for the level," the Newmarket handler told www.varianstable.com. "He looks well worth his place in this line-up and the ground is set to be in his favour. "I don't think he needs too much more on form to be a genuine win contender."
