Course knowledge a big factor for Postponed

Roger Varian is pleased he gave Postponed first-hand experience of Epsom ahead of his run in the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup at the track on Saturday.

The dual Group one-winner was put through his paces round the unique circuit at the Breakfast With The Stars event and Varian is convinced that spin will stand the five-year-old in good stead.

Postponed has proven himself at the top level in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot and the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan, but neither track compares to the ups and downs of Epsom.

"He is a very experienced horse but he has never run at Epsom before. It is a unique track," said Varian.

"The whole day out would have been a good experience and more than what I could have done at home.

"We will see how we fares on Saturday before making any firm decisions on further plans.

"Certainly the King George has to be a midsummer target and we will try to get him back there in good shape and have a good crack at defending his crown."

In the Investec-sponsored Coronation Cup, Varian also saddles Roseberg, who is in the same ownership and acted as a pacemaker when Postponed won the Prix Foy at Longchamp in September.

The main opposition to him is set to come from the opposite sex with Found and Simple Verse Group One winners with victories over colts under their belts.

Found makes a quick return to action after being beaten by Fascinating Rock in the Tattersalls Gold Cup a fortnight ago.

Successful in last season's Breeders' Cup Turf when she spoilt Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn's party, she was not expected to line-up again so soon after her Curragh exertions.

However, she has done nothing but please her trainer Aidan O'Brien and she takes her chance.

"Found came out of the Curragh in good form. She ran very well the other day and she's a filly you'd look forward to all year," said the Ballydoyle handler.

Simple Verse came out on top in a dramatic St Leger last season and warmed up for this big test with second place in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket on her return.

"It will be tough wherever she goes. She worked well on Monday and I don't think the track will hold any fears for her," said Beckett.

"This is the right race for her and she'll run her race. Whether she's good enough to beat Postponed, we'll find out."

She will be ridden by Oisin Murphy, who is not concerned how the race will be run.

"I sat on her on Monday and was very pleased with her. I'm looking forward to it," said the jockey.

"There's going to be a pacemaker in the race. Whatever happens, she's a straight-forward ride and the bit of rain wouldn't have done her any harm."
