The Joseph O’Brien-trained Cowardofthecounty asserted late on to secure victory in the Pat’s Carpets Race at Fairyhouse this evening.

The Kodi Bear gelding had chased home classy filly City Of Memphis at Gowran on his last outing and went to post 7/4 favourite in tonight’s seven-furlong conditions event.

Declan McDonogh asked his mount for an effort early in the straight and it took him a while to find his feet.

The four-year-old hit the front inside the final furlong and was nicely on top in the closing stages as he beat Queen Of The Bogs by two lengths.

Stable representative Michael Halford said:- “It was a lovely race for him.

“He’s not the fastest early on in a race, he takes time to warm up to it.

“Declan kept it lovely and simple on him, smooth on the outside, and he picked up and won well.

“He had a great run the last day and it was just a lovely race for him, a small field. It worked out lovely and it’s great to get another win with him.”

It was a first success for Cowardofthecounty since his Group 3 win at Deauville in August 2024.
