Crawford achieves important win The well-known Mrs Pat Sloan silks haven't had much luck cross-channel lately on Realt Mor but Young Palm carried them with distinction today when making a successful debut in the Bet Mobile At BetVictor.com Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Ayr. Steven Crawford rode the successful son of Great Palm for his brother Stuart and he was a second winner on the day for the raiders from Ireland as Roy Wilson's Yes Tom had impressed earlier when taking the novice chase in the hands of Paddy Brennan. Jason Maguire and Don McCain were bidding for a treble in the finale following earlier successes for Lexi's Boy and Total Rebellion. However their odds-on favourite Howaboutnow was put in his place by Young Palm, the margin between the pair at the line being five lengths. They left Blazin White Face all of twenty eight lengths behind in third. Stuart Crawford said afterwards: "He couldn't have done it any better – I was very very pleased with him. "He's only ever worked at home and he'd never really been taken off the bridle. That's the first time he's got a proper education. I think the second horse (Howaboutnow – winner of a Loughanmore 'point,' for Donnchadh Doyle before winning his bumper at Bangor having been sold for 45K) is a good enough horse. I'm delighted with the style of our fellow's win. "It's a first win for us with those colours and it's great. We had a third place last week over in England for Mrs Sloan. It's great to get the winner for them. Chateau D'eau finished third for us at Catterick last Thursday. "Young Palm is a big baby still. He's probably 17 hands – he has a lot of developing to do yet. We said we'd give him a nice wee outing today and see where we were and make a bit of a plan then." (EM)
