The Gavin Cromwell-trained Hellorhighwater landed odds of 8/15 in Cork’s William Hill Gold Weekend Starts 8am Friday Maiden.

Runner-up on his first two starts earlier in the summer, the winner was restless in the stalls but soon secured a nice position on the heels of the leaders.

Gary Carroll sent the Eoin McDonagh-owned gelding to the front 2f out and he stayed on well to beat Naples by a length and three quarters.

"He is a fine big horse and I thought racing over a mile around here with an ease in the ground would suit him lovely. It is very unlike him to get upset in the stalls but he travelled along nicely and my best furlong was probably my last one.

"I'd say he will enjoy going an extra two furlongs and over 1m2f, I think he will come into his own."
