Donnrua Dream continued a good weekend for trainer Gavin Cromwell when taking the M2Construction Wexford Novice Handicap Hurdle.

The Danestown trainer saddled a 35/1 treble at his local track in Navan yesterday and moved onto the 45 winner mark for the season here.

The five-year-old gelding won at the Limerick Christmas meeting and again showed his liking for testing ground conditions in this 2m event.

The 7/2 chance challenged in the straight and, after leading early on the run-in, kept on well for Keith Donoghue to beat the always prominent 3/1 favourite Saga Aravis by a neck. The Niffler finished best of all to be just half-a-length further away in third.

Donoghue said, “He’s done it well. I got a lovely position the whole way in the race and he was always holding the second horse.

“He wants soft ground and he’d like a wet spring.”
