Cross-country Harrington double topped off by Listed win for Barnavara Shane Foley judged it to a nicety from the front to win the Listed Darley Irish EBF Fillies & Mares Kooyonga Stakes at Navan on Jessica Harrington's Barnavara (3s from 6s on track and from bigger earlier). Foley soon had the daughter of Calyx across from her wide draw, to head off her rivals. He then took her wide in the straight, but when uneasy favourite Red Letter (1/2 out to evens) got there with her bid in the final furlong, it looked like the game might be up for Mrs Harrington's representative. To Barnavara's great credit she ended up fending off Red Letter by half a length. Assistant trainer Kate Harrington said: "I think the draw helped and she made it a test down in grade. "I think that is her perfect ground, good to yielding. "She's huge and is going to develop - we will get her home and map out a plan. That was Red Letter's second run (of the season) and no doubt she is going to come on a tonne. "We also had a winner (Bonnie Moon) this morning in Dieppe in France." (MG & EM)
