Crowd down but Tote rises on Hurdle day

The crowd figure was down for Guinness Galway Hurdle day today at Ballybrit but there was still a healthy figure of 32,663 in through the gates.

It represented a drop of 2,551 on last year's total of 35,214 on the corresponding day. It followed a trend this week with the opening three days also seeing falls.

The Tote aggregate was up this year after a couple of big rollovers into the card.

The total of €1,420,737 was a €283,400 rise on last year's figure of €1,137,337.

The bookmakers figures were down with €1,626,663 bet this year compared to €1,920,224 12 months ago. A drop of €293,561.
