The crowd figures for the week at Galway fell on last year's total but much of that could be attributed to two of the major days being hit with terrible weather.

The Plate day on Wednesday and Ladies Day on Thursday, which features the Galway Hurdle, both suffered due to heavy rain. A total of 127,768 came in through the gates this year compared to 132,235 in 2012, a drop of 3.3% for the week.

The final day of the festival proved good, however, with the crowd, Tote and bookmakers all showing increases.

The crowd for Sunday this year was 13,344 as against 12,557 last year while the Tote Aggregate of €451,819 was well up on the 2012 figure of €373,337 when there were 8 races.

Bookies turnover was also up today at €769,770 as against €733,195 on the Sunday last year.
