Crown Board will be off in search of winter sun and more international prizes after adding the Group Three Premio Ribot Memorial Loreto Luciani in San Siro on Sunday to his globetrotting portfolio.

Fresh from his success at Ascot's international jockeys challenge in the Shergar Cup and a Listed success in Stockholm at Bro Park in September, Jane Chapple-Hyam's five-year-old got another stamp in his passport in Italy.

And after coming home in front in the seven furlongs contest under Italian Marco Ghiani, the gelding will be on his travels again soon with a possible return to San Siro next month before a winter in Dubai.

“Crown Board has been a good servant to me, he travels well and we are enjoying the ride,” said Chapple-Hyam. “It's been great day and for Laurence Holder (owner), who has been with for a few years now, it is great that he has a horse that he can travel around Europe and Dubai with.

“We have had a good day so it will be celebrations on the plane home now There is a Group Two back here on the November 14 so we will consider that and if not he can have the winter in Dubai. He can pack his bags and his board shorts and head to Dubai.”

David Egan has been a regular partner for the gelding but had commitments elsewhere so Newmarket-based Italian Ghiani seemed an obvious choice according to the trainer.

Chapple-Hyam added: “Marco has ridden for Mr (Laurence) Holder a lot and he has ridden for me and we thought it was the obvious choice due to him being Italian.”
