Cruise Master Excites Meehan

Brian Meehan is doing a good job with Admiral's Cruise and he could be heading to Royal Ascot after his victory in the 32Red Poker Conditions Stakes at Newmarket.

The AP Indy colt, a 4-1 chance, had previously scored at nine and 10 furlongs but the further he went, the better he went for jockey Jimmy Fortune over this mile and a half.

He came to collar Palomar at the two-furlong pole and showed a willing attitude when galloping clear for his third career success.

Meehan said: 'I'm very excited about him. He's always been such a lovely horse and we've taken our time with him.

'He's been a bit of a baby but today he has grown up. He's in the Hardwicke and there's a Listed race at Ascot at the end of this month ? we might do something with him there.

'I've got to talk to the owners. They are based in Virginia and might like to do something over there with him.'

The Lambourn trainer also has his sights set on bigger things with Star Of Light after he bagged the £50,000 32Red Online Casino Suffolk Stakes.

The Mtoto gelding was last seen in the Cambridgeshire when only 16th behind Blue Monday, but the five-year-old, who holds an entry in the Arlington Million later this summer, put his best foot forward inside the final furlong before prevailing by half a length from bottom weight Look Again.

''We might get ambitious with him. I'll talk to the owners and see,' Meehan said of the 9-1 winner.

'He's so game and tries so hard. He's a lovely horse and very easy to train.'

Twelve months ago at the same meeting the trainer was successful with subsequent Group One scorer Donna Blini in the Bet On 32Red EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

This year's renewal was won by Jeremy Noseda's Bahama Mama, who may not prove as smart as Donna Blini but nevertheless showed more than her fair share of ability in triumphing by a head from Bicoastal.

Despite showing her inexperience, the daughter of Invincible Spirit picked up smartly late on in the five-furlong event.

As Bridge It Jo hung to the left late on, Bahama Mama (15-2) came with a neat turn of foot to scoop the spoils under Darryll Holland.

Noseda said: 'That was a pleasing introduction. We'll take that as a bonus, her winning first time out.

'She was very green and it took a long time for the penny to drop, but I'm very happy with that.'

Another debutant, Bold Alaska, caught the eye when providing a 33-1 shock in the first division of the Play Online At 32Red Maiden Stakes.

The son of Cape Cross, trained locally by Ed Dunlop, quickened impressively inside the final furlong to rein in Smart Enough and go on to win with a length and three-quarters to spare.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager for owners the Gainsborough Stud, said: 'That was a pleasant surprise. He had many problems last year and we couldn't get him galloping at all.

'He was only gelded, I guess, six or seven weeks ago because he was getting a bit heavy. It's only the last three weeks that Ed said the horse was ready to run.'

The second division of the race fell to 9-4 favourite Supaseus, who emerged victorious from a gruelling battle with Incidentally to give Fortune a 15-1 double.

Fajr gave jockey Jimmy Quinn a few anxious moments before narrowly holding on in the 32Red.com Handicap Stakes.

The Green Desert gelding, who has been a star on the all-weather this spring, idled in front during the final 200 yards but just prevailed by a neck from Putra Kuantan.

Gay Kelleway's charge, a 4-1 chance, was winning on turf for the first time after four successes on the Polytrack.

Quinn said: 'I said to the owners, if I'd got beaten it would have been my fault because I was in front too soon.

'I switched him on at the top of the hill and wished I'd waited longer. When he got there, he didn't do a stroke. He made hard work for himself.

'When I'm riding him next time, I'll know what I'm doing!'

Rochdale was a well-supported 7-4 winner in the 32Red Casino And Poker Room Handicap with Philip Robinson giving a polished performance on board the chestnut gelding.

Plum Pudding (5-2), second on his last two starts, gained a deserved victory when taking the concluding 32Red Online Poker Room handicap to send favourite backers home happy.
