Cuban Grey takes golden highway to record fifth career success Not for the first time this afternoon, being drawn high on the stands rail proved the golden highway as Cuban Grey ran out a game winner of the SIS Supporting Irish Racing Handicap at the Curragh. In the form of his life, having followed up a Dundalk win with an excellent second at Bellewstown, the Patrick McKenna trained gelding was prominent from the off under Rory Mulligan. Having bagged the stands rail, Mulligan sat tight on the five-year-old grey before asking him to extend over a furlong out. Quickening up smartly with the aid of the rail, the 4/1 chance stayed on strongly to score by three-quarters-of-a-length from Never Shout Never. McKenna said: “That’s lovely, to come to the Curragh and win one of these races. “We’d be content to compete alone. He’s a fine wee horse and that’s his third win for me. “He has strengthened up a bit and hopefully he’s not finished yet. His form is rock solid and we’re lucky to have him, let’s see how far he can go. “We won’t be as hard on him as we were last year. He picked up an injury last year and was off for a while before coming back and winning at Dundalk. “That’s Rory’s third winner for me. He’s a great lad and comes up and does a bit of riding at Dundalk for us.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
