Culloty to be honoured at Killarney Four-time Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer/jockey Jim Culloty will be honoured at a civic reception at Killarney Racecourse on Sunday May 11th. At his civic reception, Jim along with jockey Davy Russell will display the coveted Gold Cups that the pair won at last month’s Cheltenham Festival, courtesy of Lord Windermere. "It is a very nice gesture by the management of Killarney Racecourse and Killarney Town Council to invite me there on Sunday. I am being presented with a civic reception which is great and I will be there with my four Gold Cups, as will Davy Russell with his Gold Cup," said Culloty. "Obviously winning the Gold Cup at Cheltenham with Lord Windermere promotes a bit of interest about the place which is good. I am from Killarney so I am only too happy to support the track and it will be a nice occasion for my family and friends," he added. The feature events of the three-day May Festival, which runs from Sunday to Tuesday are the €50,000 Grade B Ladbrokes.com Handicap Hurdle, which will be run on Sunday and the inaugural €30,000 ‘Killarney National’ generously sponsored by The McSweeney Arms Hotel on Monday. Monday the 12th of May is an all national hunt card, while there is a mixed card on Tuesday the 13th of May. Brid Lucey, Sales and Marketing Manager at Killarney Racecourse said: “We are very excited about our opening Festival in Killarney. We are delighted to be hosting a reception to acknowledge Jim’s great achievements and on the Sunday, as part of our ‘Lá na gClub’ we will also have five local GAA Teams competing in a fundraiser ‘free-taking competition’ competing for a prize fund of €3,000 for their Club. It promises to be a great day out for all the Family.”
