Cumani takes first race on Kuster Track specialist Luca Cumani struck immediately as 'Glorious Goodwood' got under way today. Kuster gave the trainer his 25th career victory at the big summer meeting with a hard-fought win in the opening Bet Direct Summer Stakes. Jamie Spencer forced the 6-1 shot through a narrow gap between Pat Eddery`s mount Parisien Star and Frankie Dettori on 11-2 favourite Prairie Wolf inside the final furlong to lift the Stg£50,000 event by a length and a quarter and a head. But Cumani himself was not present to greet the winner. 'He said the horse doesn`t run well when he comes so if he stayed at home it would win!' Spencer said. But the jockey, who rode at his minimum weight of 8st 5lb, admitted that fitting blinkers for the first time was a more important factor in Kuster`s win. 'Early in a race he can be a bit lazy and find it hard to hold a position,' he said. 'We thought the blinkers would rekindle him early on. 'But I was quite lucky today as I thought Frankie would close the door on me.
