Cup line-up finalised

Brian Ellison's luck was right in on Saturday as both of his runners made the final field for the Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington.

Ellison needed horses to drop out in order for Moyenne Corniche and Saptapadi to take their places next Tuesday, but it turned out they were both safely in after a hectic day at Flemington.

The trainer brought both horses out for prep-races in Australia and was not even too disheartened by the fact they both got outside draws, with Moyenne Corniche running from 17 and Saptapadi from 22.

"I'm just a small trainer, so to have two horses in a race like this is just a dream," said North Yorkshire-based Ellison.

"Both horses will drop back in the field anyway, so the draw wasn't important.

"They are both really well, so I'm looking forward to it."

Luca Cumani will have two runners in his quest to finally lift the Cup after many chances, but his third possible representative Bauer was balloted out.

"He will run in the Queen Elizabeth next Saturday instead," said Cumani.

The Italian's other runners, Drunken Sailor and Manighar, drew eight and 21 respectively.

The defection of Bauer sees Dwayne Dunn booked for Drunken Sailor, so Kieren Fallon does not need to travel Down Under.

A tweet from Fallon's agent, Terry Norman, read: "Bauer has missed the cut so K Fallon WON'T be going to the Melbourne Cup. Flies to USA on Thursday. Rides UK until then."

Last year's winner Americain drew stall 15, with fellow French raider and leading fancy Dunaden in 13.

"He's not a front runner so he doesn't need a little number," said the latter's trainer, Mikel Delzangles.

Godolphin runners, Lost In The Moment and Modun, drew three and five respectively.

Ed Dunlop's Red Cadeaux has 16, with the Mark Johnston pair of Jukebox Jury and Fox Hunt in six and 19 respectively.

"It's ideal for Jukebox Jury but not for Fox Hunt. Sadly I can't do anything about that," said Johnston.

"Everything seems fine with both of them."
