Luca Cumani and Andrea Atzeni took the last flat race at the Curragh this year, the Listed Finale Stakes, with Second Step

The three-year-old gelding forged on to the line on the inner of the track to beat Chance To Dance by half a length at odds of 13/2. The runner-up representing Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning was a 15/2 chance. Altesse at 13/2 was the same distance back in third. Tarana the 7/2 favourite for John Oxx and Declan McDonogh, didn’t get involved at the business end in finishing sixth.

Craig Bennett, owner of Merry Fox Stud, said “The Curragh is the best course in the world! Cursory Glance in the Moyglare and now this! Andrea gave him a great ride, and the best thing about him is in the first part of a race he’s always in a beautiful place. We have 20 in training. We own the dam and have a full sister going into training with Luca.”
