Curragh Racecourse Limited has announced that a planning application for the comprehensive redevelopment of the Curragh Racecourse facilities was lodged with Kildare County Council, today Friday 19 February 2016.

Details of the redevelopment were announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Food, the Marine and Defence, Mr Simon Coveney TD at the Curragh on 28 October 2015 and the submission of the planning application follows a period of extensive consultation with a wide range of racecourse stakeholders and neighbours.

The redevelopment has been broadly welcomed by those consulted and the design of the facilities to be provided represents a genuine “bottom-up” approach, whereby many of the racecourse’s user groups were actively involved in the scheme’s development.

It is hoped to commence work on the redevelopment as soon as practicable after the decision on planning permission and it is proposed to continue racing during the construction programme, utilising temporary facilities as required.

The planning application is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Statement and the planning submission may be inspected at the offices of Kildare County Council, Naas, Co. Kildare.
