Curraheen Princess was a notable winner in Navan today for trainer Nicky Stokes.

The 9/1 shot contested the Navanracecourse.ie Handicap over five furlong and was ridden to the front inside the final furlong by Joe Doyle.

She fended off fast-finishing Amazing Emma (6/1) by three parts of a length. Maggie Thunder (11/1) was a head further back in third with Teddy Boy fourth at 5/1 in a bunch finish for the places.

The trainer's wife. Nicky Stokes, said: "My husband is in Wexford, we have a runner down there for Tom Egan as well. I think he preferred the shorter trip!

"That is our first Flat winner ever so we are delighted. We are in Fethard, Tipperary and have about nine in - some are pre-training for the Flat.

"It was a great performance with the weight that she had. We were hoping that she would run well but she hadn't won on ground that quick before so we were just a little bit worried about that. She got away with it and did it well."
