Dallas Star got his career back on track when overcoming a nine-month absence to take the William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Race at Dundalk.

The son of Cloth Of Stars looked a smart sort when landing the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown last spring but hadn’t been seen since disappointing behind City Of Troy in the Betfred Derby at Epsom.

David Egan elected to make the running in this extended ten-furlong event and the 7/4 favourite was strongly pressed in the straight before keeping on well inside the final furlong.

The AMO Racing-owned four-year-old had a length and a half to spare over stablemate Persian Bliss and San Andreas who dead-heated for the runner-up spot.

Winning trainer Adrian Murray said, "David was very happy with him and he is going to improve plenty.

"He picked up an injury in the Derby and hasn't run since, so it is a great comeback. He had to give the weight away and it is a fair effort.

"Oh definitely (try 1m4f again) and eventually he could be a 1m6f horse.

"He'll go now for a Listed race in Naas (Devoy Stakes) in the second week of the Flat, it is a mile and two as well. He'll be even better on the turf."

AMO representative Ryan McElligott added, "After the Devoy Stakes, then maybe the likes of the Vintage Crop in Navan and the Saval Beg (at Leopardstown), that sort of programme."
