Damysus fit and firing ahead of Lockinge John and Thady Gosden may have had to rule Field Of Gold out of the Boyle Sports Lockinge at Newbury but stablemate Damysus is ready to fill the void when he will attempt to build on his impressive seasonal return later this month. The son of Frankel earned rave reviews prior to running in the Derby last season and although things failed to go to plan at Epsom, the striking colt has made it three from three since, adding a second Group Three to his CV when landing the Earl of Sefton in great style last month. That victory came over nine furlongs with proven form over further also in the book, but connections are happy to drop back to a mile on May 16 when he will take on some of the very best at that distance. Richard Brown, racing adviser for owners Wathnan Racing said: “We’ve decided on the Lockinge. I saw him work Saturday morning and he worked really well. He seems to have come out of his first run in good shape. “There were a few options but we decided on the Lockinge and we’re looking forward to having a crack at that. “I think he will be versatile between a mile and 10 furlongs, but the timing is right and it’s obviously a very prestigious race and it fits nicely. “We’ve only dropped into Group One company once when things didn’t go right in the Derby. We tried the Derby and that didn’t work but since then he’s won three on the bounce, done nothing wrong and deserves his crack at another Group One.”
