Dancer & Effortless take Mares Maiden divides Division One of the 6yo and upwards Mares Maiden went to the Liam Phelan trained Code Dancer under Damien Skehan. This daughter of Anshan was deservedly getting off the mark at her twelfth attempt having finished second in this race last year to none other than subsequent two time track winner Sligo Publican. Having finished second on her last start at Horse and Jockey in early March behind Lucky Pigeon the 7yo went one place better today coming home an easy twelve length winner from Rosie Larkin back in second. The second divide saw Susan Finn and Maxine O’Sullivan combined to good effect with the well-bred Beat Hollow mare Effortless (bred Juddmonte Farms Ltd). This well backed, well tried maiden on the racecourse proper appeared to have this contest in save keeping at the last but O’Sullivan hadn’t bargained for the flying late run of the Ray Hurley trained Nimble Nell and she was a relived woman when the judge gave her the verdict by a neck.
