Dandy Boy wins the Wokingham for Marnane Irish raider Dandy Boy scooted clear to record an impressive success in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot for trainer David Marnane and jockey Pat Dobbs. The six-year-old swept to the front inside the final furlong in far-side group to cause a 33-1 upset and score by a length-and-a-quarter. Waffle (11-1) fared best of the stands-side battalion to finish second, a length and a quarter away from the winner. Hawkeyethenoo (20-1) and Morache Music (20-1) finished third and fourth respectively. Dandy Boy won the Victoria Cup at this track in May 2010 and was providing Marnane and Dobbs with first Royal Ascot winners. The trainer said: "We've been trying to get him to switch off. He's always been a horse with plenty of speed. He's come here in the best form we've had him in for a long, long time. We've had him all of his racing life. He's been a great money-earner for us. "What's really pleasing is that two years ago I came here with two favourites and they both disappointed, but this time I've had a winner as well as a second in the Buckingham Palace (Jamesie). I'm delighted for his owner, who is a big supporter of the yard." Dobbs added: "The plan was to drop in and take my time - I even got there a bit too soon."
