Stout filly Maria Quiteria (4/6 - 4/9f) made a taking winning debut at Dundalk today, landing the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden for trainer Robson De Aguiar, when collected a bonus for owners the First Law Syndicate.

Purchased for €25,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale last September, the daughter of Churchill was one of seven entries recently-licensed De Aguiar made for today’s juvenile maiden and having been heavily supported, raced prominently under Donagh O’Connor and scored in the manner of smart filly.

Maria Quiteria passed the line 4.25 lengths ahead of stablemate Belle Island with Brazilan-native De Aguiar reporting "Maria Quiteria is a nice filly who has shown a lot of class at home and with had the opportunity to get the Goffs bonus (of €50,000) - that's why we came and we will go forward on the turf now.

“She is always looking for six/seven (furlongs) which will be no problem for her and I think she has a really bright future. We will probably run her in Naas in the Group 3 for fillies over six furlongs and I really like this filly.

"I'd say ground will be no problem, she's a very sound filly and is clean-winded."

Maria Quitéria de Jesus was a Brazilian soldier and national heroine, who served in the Brazilian War of Independence in 1822—24 dressed as a man.
