Trainer Henry De Bromhead is hopeful his Inthepocket can be competitive in today’s Grade 3 Barberstown Castle Chase at Naas, as the gelding returns following a layoff.

Today’s five runner race includes Willie Mullins’ dual Grade 1 winner Champ Kiely stablemate Grade 2 winner Ile Atlantique and the Gavin Cromwell-trained Only By Night who finished second in the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham on her penultimate start.

Inthepocket, fourth to Marine Nationale in the 2023 Supreme Novices Hurdle, was last in action when finishing third to Ile Atlantique in a Grade 2 novice chase at today’s course in January, but hasn’t raced in the intervening 308 days.

De Bromhead reports “he’s in good form and working well but you’d imagine he’ll come on for the run. He’s been off for a while and has had his issues.

“The conditions of the race are very favourable for him so hopefully he’ll run well.”
