Denis Hogan is optimistic that former point-to-point winner Frankie John will have a bright future on the racetrack.

He held an eye-catching entry in the Grade 2 bumper in the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown, but made his racecourse debut in a bumper at Navan just over a week ago.

The five-year-old son of Walk In The Park kept on nicely for fourth behind impressive winner Copacabana who now shades favouritism for the Champion Bumper at The Cheltenham Festival.

Hogan said: "I'm sorry I didn't go to the DRF to be honest.

"The race last week was nearly as hot, it was a deep race. The pace wasn't strong and he finished well. We sat too far back off a slow pace and the race developed before we moved.

"I'm not saying we would have beaten the winner, but I would have expected that he would have been second.

"He'll bumper once or twice more this season and then he'll go novice hurdling next year.

"Definitely one to look forward to and he's lovely to have in the yard even though we tried to sell him - might be all for luck!"

Frankie John won his point-to-point at Boulta in November for Hogan.
