Deauville Group race joy for Fahey and Dettori Richard Fahey's Sandiva won the Group Three Prix du Calvados at Deauville under Frankie Dettori. The daughter of Footstepsinthesand stepped up from maiden company to win a Listed contest on her second start before beating all bar Kiyoshi in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. Stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time, she was on the outside of the field as American raider Richies Party Girl cut out the early running. Dettori asked his mount to quicken at the furlong pole and she quickly took a couple of lengths out of the field. Andre Fabre's maiden winner Straight Thinking weaved a way through from the rear of the field to give chase but the winner had already flown and the result never looked in doubt. Straight Thinking was one and a half lengths adrift at the line with the first two quickening four and a half lengths clear of the chasing pack which was led by Stormyra. Sandiva's main market rival, Lacarolina, was situated in the stall next to Fahey's filly and unseated her rider Gregory Benoist upon leaving the stalls. The stewards opted to take a look at incident but decided to leave the placings unaltered. The winner was cut to 16/1 from 20s for the QIPCO 1000 Guineas by Sky Bet while several firms shortened favourite Kiyoshi for the same contest with Ladbrokes making Charles Hills' filly a 5/1 chance from 8s.
