Nelson Muntz showed no ill effects from his run yesterday when claiming the Paddy Monaghan 90th Birthday Handicap Hurdle at Gowran Park this afternoon.

Harry Kelly's charge had been fourth in the opener at Clonmel on Thursday and went to post a 9/2 on his quick return.

Phillip Enright produced his mount to challenge two from home in the two-and-a-half mile contest and he edged ahead from front-runner Lucy Wang before the last.

The Mount Nelson gelding kept on well in the closing stages to post a length-and-a-quarter success.

“Things just didn't go to plan in Clonmel yesterday,” said Kelly.

“It ended up like a little bit of work for him basically the way the race went. He missed the first and was locked in in a bit of trouble.

“He ate and he drank last night and he was full of beans in the paddock this morning so we said we'd chance it.

“I'm delighted for the owner, Niall Kennelly. He's a big supporter of mine and has been with me through thick and thin. He's been really loyal to me.

“That horse has been unlucky all the way, he's got knocked down in more races and got into bad luck.

“We fancied him today and it's nice that it worked out, it doesn't always happen.”
